Approved leave from studies means an interruption in studies of which the university was formally notified by the student. Special reasons for taking an approved leave from studies may be social, medical, or other special circumstances such as parental leave, conscription and civilian service, or Student Union roles. The university's permission for the student to continue their studies after approved leave from studies will be given for a fixed period of time (Swedish Council for Higher Education, UHRFS 2013:3). NOTE! Documents sent to the university are to be regarded as official documents and may be disclosed if someone so requests. Alternatively, certificates/documentation can be shown in person to university administrators. After a decision has been made, the related documents are archived.

Decisions on approved leave from studies are to contain information on how and when resumption will take place. After an approved leave from studies, students must announce their intention to resume studies in accordance with the decision on resuming studies.

    • Process

      - The form is filled in and the student states the reason for the approved leave from studies and supports the application with a certificate or other documentation.

      - Decisions are made by the Director of Studies or equivalent

      - Decisions are communicated to the student and, if the application was approved, registered in Ladok.

      - When the student wishes to resume their studies, they must submit the form "Application to resume studies” no later than the date specified in the decision for the approved leave from studies.

    • Information about the processing of personal data

      Information that you provide about yourself on the form will be processed by the University to deal with your case. When the processing is complete, the information will be retained in accordance with the current record retention and disposal policy and decisions. The University of Borås is the data controller for the processing, which takes place pursuant to Article 6.1 (e) of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation.


      You have the right to access the personal data processed about you (a so-called register extract) and request correction or deletion of the data. You also have the right to object to the processing and request that processing be restricted. These rights are not unconditional and cannot always be met, for example the University’s ability to delete information is limited.
